I prefer them to the R4C in the it has crystal filters that are hardwired to the mode switch where the A and B give the ability to set the mode to AM and the filter to CW and so on. (CW selectivity on a very qrm'd SSB signal can make a major difference...) I'd say 'go for it'... if its reasonably clean and appears to work reasonably. alan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1993 02:21:54 GMT From: dog.ee.lbl.gov!agate!doc.ic.ac.uk!pipex!sunic!psinntp!psinntp!gdstech!gdstech!bat@network.ucsd.edu Subject: Electronic Keyer Kit To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu A few years ago, there was an article in QST about the CMOS Super Keyer II. I bought the kit from Idiom Press, and put it together in a few hours. It's a 1 chip microprocessor, and you just add some resistors, switches, a pot and battery holder. Works great. It has 4 memory positions, and is controlled by Morse commands on the paddles. Speeds from 6 to 60 on the pot. Works great in contests, and batteries last for years. It has to do with the PTT tone volume.. It goes as Follows If you have trouble getting the touch-tones on the HTX-202 2-meter Ham Radio Transceiver (Cat No. 19-1120 ) to work with the local Repeater, try resetting the unit's touch-tone audio level. To do this, you can adjust the touchtone pot (RV 1001) down until the tones don't decode, then up again until it JUST works. (Simply tuning down is NOT as reliable as this metho You uld make NO other adjustments! Also, many repeaters will read back the tones once they decode properly. If you are unsure how to do this, you can find out from another repeater member. This is all R.S. would have to say about there HTx-202. If you have had any problems with using the phone patch, this should cure it. Some have been setting the << Auto Reply >> function in the main setup to << ON >> to cure this problem. If you have, set it back to << OFF >> before adjusting (RV 1001) pot. Hope this helps.............. 73's for now..Russell...Ka4nmx @ Ki4fl ------------------------------ Date: 17 Nov 1993 15:08:14 GMT From: ftpbox!mothost!delphinium.rtsg.mot.com!rtsg.mot.com!reichrt@uunet.uu.net Subject: MFJ-1796 40-6 Meter Vertical? I'm not suer if this is the right group to post in but it's worth a try. I just bought a Mr. Microphone and I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has had any luck making so adjustments to it such as: 1) Adjust the frequency of the transmission to any great extent (different band?) 2) Increase the power output a great deal? Any ideas would be appreciated!! thanx!! Unfortunately it didn't come with manuals, and now has developed a couple of problems. One is really low output (blown final?) and the other is a tendancy to hop frequencies while in operation (sometimes to 144.0, sometimes inverted on the repeater channel). He'd really like to track down a manual, a service manual, or at least a schematic for the beast, along with any information about these problems (i.e. are there some typical failure modes in these radios, like the IC22S grommet problem?) Probably there is some useful information on mods and stuff out there also that would be of interest too - I know these were pretty popular and there were some front end mods for them. He doesn't have net access, but I can relay to him or provide phone information. He's of course willing to pay copying costs, mailing, etc. Thanks in advance Kevin, WB2EMS ------------------------------ Date: 19 Nov 93 00:26:42 GMT From: telesoft!garym@uunet.uu.net Subject: Problems with Kenwood TM-742A To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu In garym@alsys.com (Gary Morris @ignite) writes: >The first 742A I received from HRO had problems with setting CTCSS tones, >... >My 742A got into this mode after I tried to turn on the S-meter squelch mode. >HRO swapped it for another unit and it works, but I'm afraid to try S-meter >squelch again right now... Well, after 3 weeks of perfect operation with my third 742A, I decided to try the S-meter squelch mode again. Worked great for about 10 minutes, then the display froze up and it shut off just like the second radio I had. Now when powered up, it displays -on- for a few seconds and shuts down. The key sequence for resetting the cpu doesn't help. So it's back to HRO again. I'm getting really tired of this. --GaryM -- Gary Morris KK6YB Internet: garym@alsys.com San Diego, CA USA Phone: +1 619-457-2700 x128 (work) ------------------------------ Date: 18 Nov 93 17:32:21 GMT From: auratek!epacyna@uunet.uu.net Subject: Tentec Scout 555 or a Yaesu FT747GX? I saw Icoms on construction projects as long ago as over ten years ago, thumbwheels and all. Some of these radios were RENTED from outfits that were in the two-way business and should have known better. Take a look at whats in 47 CFR ... argh. That volume of the rules has hidden itself in this mess. Its the first volume of the FCC R&R and it has the rules for "type acceptance" as well as approved, notified, and so on.... These rules have been made progressivley tighter just because of this crud. ------------------------------ End of Ham-Equip Digest V93 #107 ****************************** ******************************
